Punjab: Twin explosions reported near military sites in Jalandhar, Amritsar

Two separate low-intensity explosions were reported with hours of each other near military installations in Punjab’s Jalandhar and Amritsar on Tuesday night, The Hindu reported.
The first incident took place in Jalandhar around 8 pm, when a scooter parked near the Border Security Force’s Punjab Frontier headquarters caught fire. Residents in the area reported hearing a loud sound.
Unidentified police officials told The Hindu that it was too early to determine whether the incident was an explosion or an accidental fire.
Jalandhar Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur said preliminary observations suggested that the vehicle had caught fire, but added that the matter was still under investigation, the newspaper reported.
A second suspected low-intensity explosion was heard around 10.50 pm near the boundary wall of the Khasa cantonment area in Amritsar, ANI reported.
The police said they received information about a loud noise and reached the spot along with Army personnel.
Amritsar Rural Senior Superintendent of Police Sohail Qasim Mir said that a tin sheet attached to the cantonment boundary wall was found damaged and had collapsed, ANI reported.
Mir added that preliminary findings suggested that an object may have been thrown at the wall, triggering a small explosion. No casualties or major damage were reported, he added.
