State representative Shawn Thierry switches to Republican Party after primary defeat

Texas State Representative Shawn Thierry has decided to switch parties and join the Republicans after being defeated in the Democratic primary for her Houston seat. Thierry has criticised the Democratic Party for its stance on issues like gender transition for minors and changes to Title IX. Governor Greg Abbott and House Speaker Dade Phelan welcomed the move. Her term ends on January 14, with her successor to be decided in the November 5 election.
