Madhya Pradesh: Dalit man allegedly assaulted, forced to drink urine after quitting driver’s job

A 25-year-old Dalit man was allegedly abducted, assaulted and forced to drink urine twice by three men after he quit working as a driver for one of them in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind district, PTI reported on Tuesday.

The three men, identified as Sonu Barua, Alok Sharma and Chhotu Ojha, have been arrested.

The victim, Gyan Singh Jatav, a resident of Deendayal Nagar in Gwalior, had recently stopped working as a driver for Barua, who lives in Datawali village in Bhind. Upset over this, Barua allegedly abducted Jatav from his home with the help of Sharma and Ojha, The New Indian Express reported.

During the journey, the three men allegedly beat Jatav with a plastic pipe, forced him to consume alcohol and then made him drink urine from the same bottle. The assault was repeated after they reached Bhind, where Jatav was reportedly chained and beaten again.

He was later admitted to Bhind District Hospital with serious injuries.

A case has been registered against the accused under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Prevention of Atrocities Act, as well as sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita related to kidnapping, assault and inhuman treatment, Additional Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Pathak told PTI.
