Former Agniveers will get 20% reservation in recruitment to vacant “Group C” posts in the Delhi government, Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu said on Thursday.
The posts include police constables, fire personnel, jail wardens, forest guards and wildlife guards. Recruitment under the provision will be open to all eligible former Agniveers.
Agniveers are recruited into the armed forces under the Agnipath short-term recruitment scheme. Under the scheme, citizens aged between 17-and-a-half and 21 years are eligible to apply for a four-year term in the military with a provision that 25% of them will be retained for 15 more years.
On Thursday, Sandhu said that a June 30 deadline has been set for departments to complete processes and amend recruitment rules.
The departments have been empowered to “deploy and utilise the specialised capabilities” of the former Agniveers in line with their operational requirements, the lieutenant governor added.
In March, the Union home ministry notified that the Delhi Police would reserve 20% of the constable (executive) posts for former Agniveers, with exemptions from the physical efficiency test and a three-year relaxation in the upper age limit. The Delhi Police reports to the Union government.
Neighbouring Haryana had also, in April 2025, announced the doubling of reservations for former Agniveers in police recruitment to 20%.
