919 dead in Nepal-China flash flood, MEA says 149 Indians rescued

The toll in the flash flood and mudslide in Nepal and China, which occurred on Wednesday, rose to 919 on Monday. Of these, 903 deaths were reported in Nepal and 16 on the Chinese side of the border.

More than 4,200 persons were missing in Nepal. This included 275 Indians, New Delhi had said on Saturday night. The number was nearly 550 on the Chinese side.

More than 10,000 persons, including 252 foreigners, had been rescued in Nepal as of 9 am on Monday, the country’s disaster management authority said.

Nearly 150 Indians were rescued from flash flood-hit Nepal as of 5.30 pm on Sunday, the Ministry of External Affairs said. While 403 Indian citizens had safely crossed into Nepal from China, 500 were reported safe on the Chinese side of the border, it added.
