United States President Donald Trump on Saturday said that the US forces and the Nigerian military had killed Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, the second in command of global terror group Islamic State.

Trump said on social media that al-Minuki was the “most active terrorist in the world from the battlefield”.

The Islamic State leader was hiding in Africa, Trump said, without providing more details about the operation.

“He will no longer terrorize the people of Africa, or help plan operations to target Americans,” the US president said. “With his removal, ISIS’s global operation is greatly diminished.”

Trump thanked the Nigerian government for its assistance in the operation.

On December 25, Trump had said that the US military had struck the Islamic State in northwestern Nigeria.
