The Congress said that it will support actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam to form the government in Tamil Nadu. A Congress delegation handed over a letter of support to Vijay at the headquarters of the TVK in Chennai.

However, the party said that its support will be conditional on the TVK “keeping out from this alliance any communal forces that do not believe in the Constitution” of India.

In its electoral debut, the TVK emerged as the single-largest party in the state, winning 108 seats. However, it fell short of the majority mark of 118 seats in the 234-member Assembly. The Congress, which fought the elections in an alliance with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, won five seats. Read on.

Vijay later met Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar in Chennai to stake claim to form the government in the state. He has claimed that his party has the majority required to form the government, said the governor.
