Pakistan's external borrowing is projected to reach $135.1 billion by 2025, with much of the debt owed to China. The country's external debt increased from $68.673 billion in 2015 to the current level, reflecting a significant upward trend. Public and publicly-guaranteed borrowing comprises the majority of this debt, totaling around $107.076 billion. Private borrowing is notably more expensive, contributing to rising debt-service payments across developing countries.
