Nepal: Seven dead in flash flood, over 100 Indians missing

At least seven persons died in a flash flood and mudslide in Nepal on Wednesday, The Kathmandu Post reported. Several more are feared dead.

One hundred and five Indian tourists are among 291 foreign citizens reported missing after the flash floods, the Nepal Tourism Board said.

The incident occurred in the Rasuwa district along Nepal’s northern border with China. The mountainous district is located about 120 km north of Kathmandu, Nepal’s capital.

The flash flood swept away several villages along the Bhotekoshi river, and damaged roads and bridges.

The authorities were urging people along the Trishuli river to evacuate from the riverbanks and move to safer ground.

Some of the affected villages were in Nuwakot district, south of Rasuwa.

The Nepali Army and the police had launched a search and rescue operation.

The Indian embassy in Kathmandu set up emergency contact numbers for information related to Indian citizens affected by the flash flood.

Several persons were also feared dead or missing ​after a mudslide hit a major ‌Nepal-China border crossing, Reuters quoted Chinese news agency Xinhua has having reported. The incident occurred in Gyirong county, which is located on the other side of the border from Rasuwa, it added.
