A case has been filed against a content creator in Madhya Pradesh’s Niwari district for using allegedly abusive language about former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Delhi Police in a social media post, The Hindu reported on Sunday.

Yashpal Soni was booked on Thursday after he posted a video on social media platform Instagram. He was questioned by the police in the matter following a complaint from BJP leaders, including the party’s block chief, the newspaper reported.

Soni was booked under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita pertaining to obscene acts in public places that annoy others and intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace.

Niwari Superintendent of Police Ray Singh Narwaria told The Hindu that the video was “way out of the purview of freedom of expression”.

The content creator used allegedly objectionable words in the video, Narwaria said, adding that “this is in no way freedom of speech and should not be promoted”.

The police officer claimed that Soni had “realised his mistake” and apologised for it. He also removed the video from the platform.
