Four persons were killed and six others injured after a cloudburst struck a village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Saturday, PTI reported.
This comes days after 60 persons were killed in a flash flood triggered by a cloudburst near the Chashoti village of Kishtwar district on Thursday. More than 100 persons were also injured
The cloudburst in Kathua hit the Jod Ghati village in Rajbagh during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, unidentified officials told PTI. It snapped access to the village and caused damage to land and property, the officials added.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh, who represents the Udhampur Lok Sabha seat, said in a social media post that the railway track, the national highway and the police station in Kathua had also been damaged in the cloudburst.
“The civilian administration, military and paramilitary has swung into action,” Singh said. “The situation [is] being continuously monitored.”
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah offered condolences to the families of those killed due to the cloudburst and directed officials to carry out relief, rescue and evacuation measures in Kathua, his office said on social media.
