Indian illustrator Anand RK, journalist Suparna Sharma win Pulitzer Prize for illustrated reporting

Indian illustrator and visual artist Anand RK and investigative journalist Suparna Sharma, along with Bloomberg’s investigative reporter Natalie Obiko Pearson, have won the 2026 Pulitzer Prize in Illustrated Reporting and Commentary for trAPPed, an illustrated account of a neurologist in India held under “digital arrest” by her phone. The piece was awarded the prize for using “visuals and words to cast light on the growing global challenges of surveillance and digital scams.”

This category recognises a distinguished portfolio of editorial cartoons or other illustrated work (still, animated, or both) characterised by political insight, editorial effectiveness, or public service value. A cash prize of $15,000 will be shared between the winners.

Anand RK has previously won the Eisner Award in 2021 for Best Painter/Multimedia Artist, along with colourist John Pearson, for the graphic novel Blue in Green.
