The High Court on Thursday directed the police to provide protection to the mother of the main accused in the killing of a 26-year-old man in Delhi’s Uttam Nagar area during Holi, Live Law reported.
The court was hearing a petition filed by the mother of the accused, Ismail, who submitted that for the past two days, some residents, including family members of the deceased, had been throwing stones and bricks at her home. Her counsel also showed the court CCTV footage to support the claim.
The court noted that it was a “serious situation”, Live Law reported.
On March 4, Tarun Bhutolia died after being severely injured in a clash during Holi celebrations. The clash began when a water balloon accidentally thrown by an 11-year-old girl from the third floor of a building fell on a Muslim woman standing below.
The incident had led to an argument between the two neighbouring families from different religious communities. Ismail has been in Tihar Jail since March 5.
On Thursday, Justice Girish Kathpalia said the accused’s mother could not be left vulnerable to violence regardless of the legal proceedings against her son.
