Delhi HC seeks response from minister who slapped AAP worker

The Delhi High Court on Thursday sought responses from the Delhi Police and Deputy Chief Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma to a petition filed by an Aam Aadmi Party worker whom the Bharatiya Janata Party leader slapped in September, Bar and Bench reported.

Justice Sachin Datta directed the police to file a status report in the case and listed the matter for hearing on November 17.

Verma had slapped Sahib Singh on September 27 during an altercation allegedly about the poor quality of a road in the national capital’s Tilak Nagar area.

Sahib Singh handles social media for Tilak Nagar MLA Jarnail Singh and had gone to the site after the Public Works Department reportedly called them to inspect the road. Saheb Singh said that he pointed out sections of the road where the surface was breaking apart, after which the BJP leader slapped him. Video shared by AAP showed police personnel were present and tried to break up the altercation.

Sahib Singh had moved the court seeking an independent investigation into the incident, and immediate protection for himself and his family. He alleged that he had received intimidating messages following the incident, reported Bar and Bench.
