Arjun Erigaisi and Gukesh Dommaraju won their respective games as India won their first-ever gold medal at the Chess Olympiad in the open event.

Erigaisi, playing with the black pieces got the better of GM Jan Subelj first on the third board to give India an advantage against Slovenia.

Minutes later, Gukesh beat Vladimir Fedoseev with the black pieces on the top board to give India an unassailable 2-0 lead in the match.

India needed only a draw against Slovenia to win the gold medal at the 2024 Chess Olympiad. The draw has been assured with the victories for Arjun and Gukesh.
