Neha Bora, the president of the All India Students’ Association, was detained on Sunday while leading a protest march in Delhi.
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) MP John Brittas was detained near Connaught Place. The party alleged that he was assaulted by the police. “He was later dropped by the roadside, visibly injured and in distress,” the party said.
Representatives of Left-affiliated student groups and the Cockroach Janta Party political campaign were also detained on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court passed an interim order directing that people peacefully assembling to protest must not be detained “except save by law”.
The Cockroach Janta Party and Left groups had called for fresh protests in Delhi on Sunday, a day after thousands of protesters, Opposition leaders, activists, lawyers and journalists were detained across the capital. The campaign has also called for a protest in Mumbai at 4 pm.
The demonstrations were organised to demand Kumar’s resignation over alleged irregularities in the special intensive revision of electoral rolls.
