Updates: Nepal-China flash flood toll rises to 682, MEA says 287 Indians missing

The toll in the flash flood and mudslide in Nepal and China increased to 682 on Saturday, AFP reported.

Of these, 675 deaths were in Nepal, the news agency quoted the country’s disaster management authority as saying. At least seven had died on the Chinese side of the border, state media reported.

More than 2,420 persons were missing. This included 287 Indians, New Delhi said on Saturday.

The floods occurred in the Rasuwa district along Nepal’s northern border with China on Wednesday. The mountainous district is located about 120 km north of Kathmandu. As there was no rainfall in the area, residents did not have a warning about the deluge.
