A case was filed against Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai on Saturday for allegedly making abusive remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi during an event in Mahoba district, PTI reported.

Rai rejected the charges and described the video of the incident as having been generated using artificial intelligence.

The first information report against Rai was filed based on a complaint registered by a Bharatiya Janata Party worker, the news agency reported.

As per the complaint, Rai attended an event on Friday in the Samad Nagar area, which had been organised by former Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee Secretary Brijraj Ahirwar.

Rai arrived at the venue with a convoy of 15 to 16 vehicles and about 25 to 30 supporters, which obstructed a public road and affected movement in the area, the complainant alleged. The police and administrative personnel left their regular duties to maintain law and order at the venue, the complaint was quoted as having stated.

The complainant accused Rai of using “abusive and objectionable language” against Modi during the event, claiming that the video of the remarks had been widely shared on social media.
