Saurabh Bharadwaj, AAP leaders booked for allegedly assaulting constable

A first information report has been registered against Aam Aadmi Party leaders Saurabh Bharadwaj and Jarnail Singh, and other party workers for allegedly assaulting a head constable, ANI reported on Tuesday.

The incident took place on Monday when AAP leaders, led by former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, went to the Tilak Nagar, a day after Delhi minister Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma slapped a man in the area.

On Monday, the constable was recording videos in the area when a crowd of AAP supporters surrounded and allegedly assaulted him, police said.

The AAP leaders have been booked under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita pertaining to voluntarily obstructing a public servant in the discharge of public functions, using criminal force against a public servant while discharging their duty and voluntarily causing hurt.

Bharadwaj alleged that the police were trying to intimidate AAP leaders by implicating them in false cases.

“Police personnel are scared,” The Times of India quoted Bharadwaj as saying. “They think that implicating us in false cases will scare us. This hooliganism by police won’t work.”
