At least three first information reports were filed against Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi for allegedly assaulting police personnel and obstructing them during the INDIA bloc’s protest against the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi has also been named in the FIRs.

The two MPs have been booked under sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita pertaining to assault on police personnel, obstruction of government work, pushing and manhandling, and misbehaviour with police personnel. Read on.

Opposition MPs held a brief protest at Delhi’s Raj Ghat, the memorial dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi, demanding the resignation of Kumar. This was the third consecutive day of the INDIA bloc holding demonstrations in the national capital.

Protests are being held in several parts of the country calling for Kumar to resign over concerns about the functioning of the Election Commission and its handling of the special intensive revision of electoral rolls. Read on.
