Opposition MPs including Rahul Gandhi held a sit-in protest at the All India Radio office, next to the Election Commission headquarters in Delhi. Before this, they had been briefly detained during an INDIA bloc march to demand Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation.
The sit-in protest at the Akashvani Bhawan was continuing as of 7 pm.
The Opposition was calling for Kumar to resign over concerns about the functioning of the Election Commission and its handling of the special intensive revision of electoral rolls. The march started from Parliament complex and was stopped by the police about half a kilometre away on Parliament Street before the demonstrators were able to reach the poll panel’s headquarters.
Gandhi was among several Opposition MPs who were briefly detained there. After being released, he and other Congress leaders entered the Akashvani Bhawan compound in an attempt to reach the poll panel’s headquarters. Read on.
The Maharashtra Police was sending its volunteers notices stating that those joining Cockroach Janta Party’s protest against Chief Election Commission Gyanesh Kumar in Delhi on Saturday would face legal action, alleged the political campaign’s founder Abhijeet Dipke.
