Justice Yashwant Varma, who is facing an inquiry into an unaccounted cash row, has resigned from the Allahabad High Court. He submitted his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday.

This came as the process to impeach him was underway. The Union government was awaiting the report of a three-member committee set up under the 1968 Judges Inquiry Act by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on August 12.

Unaccounted cash was allegedly recovered at Varma’s official residence in Delhi when emergency services responded to a fire there on March 14, 2025. He was a judge at the Delhi High Court at that time. Read on.
