More than 30 persons are feared dead after a passenger aircraft operated by Azerbaijan Airlines crashed near Kazakhstan’s Aktau city on Wednesday, reported AP.
The plane was carrying at least 62 passengers and five crew members, Reuters reported. It was travelling from the Azerbaijani capital of Baku to the Russian city of Grozny but had been rerouted because of fog.
Quoting unidentified officials, AP reported that at least 32 persons survived the crash. At least 29 persons have been admitted to hospitals, said Kazakhstan’s Emergency Ministry.
Kazakhstan authorities announced the formation of a government commission to investigate the incident, reported Reuters.
Commission members were ordered to visit the site and assist the families of the dead and injured. Kazakhstan will also cooperate with Azerbaijan in the investigation.
This is a developing story. It will be updated as new details are available.
