‘Main Vaapas Aaunga’ trailer: Imtiaz Ali’s romance travels from Partition to the present

Imtiaz Ali reunites with his Amar Singh Chamkila star Diljit Dosanjh and regular collaborators AR Rahman and Irshad Kamil for his latest romance Main Vaapas Aaunga. The Hindi film, written by Ali and Nayanika Mahtani, will be out on June 12 in cinemas.

Rahman’s score and Kamil’s lyrics accompany a Partition-era relationship between characters played by Vedang Raina and Sharvari. In the present, Raina’s older, ailing character, played by Naseeruddin Shah, desperately holds on to memories of his lost love, which he narrates to Diljit Dosanjh’s character. The cast includes Danish Pandor.

Ali’s Love Aaj Kal (2009) was also a generation-spanning romance. Ali made another film also titled Love Aaj Kal in 2020. He has been mostly working in streaming since, creating the shows She and Dr Arora and directing Amar Singh Chamkila for Netflix in 2024....
