Maharashtra election results: Ruling Mahayuti crosses majority mark in early trends

Maharashtra’s ruling alliance had crossed the majority mark in the Assembly in the early trends for the state’s election results.
The ruling Mahayuti was ahead in 171 seats, the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi in 51 seats, and others in five seats, according to Election Commission data.
The Bharatiya Janata Party was ahead in 90 seats, the Shiv Sena group led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in 49 and the Nationalist Congress Party group led by Deputy Chief Minister in 32.
In the Maha Vikas Aghadi camp, the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray was ahead in 18 seats, the Congress in 17, and the Nationalist Congress Party group led by Sharad Pawar in 12.
The counting of votes for elections to the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly began at 8 am on Saturday.
The election was held in a single phase on November 20, along with the second phase of the Jharkhand Assembly election.
Maharashtra registered a voter turnout of 66.05%, the highest since 1995.
Most exit polls have predicted that the ruling Mahayuti alliance will cross the majority mark of 145 seats and retain power. An average of exit poll predictions by NDTV has forecast 155 seats for the ruling alliance, 120 for the Maha Vikas Aghadi and 13 for others.
