An earthquake of magnitude 7.4 struck off the coast of Russia’s eastern Kamchatka peninsula on Saturday.

The epicentre of the quake, which took place at a depth of about 39 km, was 111 km east of the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky city. The earthquake struck at about 8 am Indian time, according to the United States Geological Survey.

It was not immediately known if the quake had led to casualties and if it had triggered a tsunami warning.

An earthquake of magnitude 8.7 struck off the Kamchatka region on July 30. The quake had led to tsunami waves reaching several countries along the Pacific Ocean.
