Indian cartoonist Charbak Dipta, along with illustrator Anand RK and journalist Suparna Sharma, have been nominated for the 2026 Eisner awards in the Best Digital Comic and Best Short Story categories, respectively.

Dipta’s nominated piece, The World of Lublu, follows Lublu, an absent-minded philosopher living in a surreal Indian town, who sets off for a magic show with his friend Kim, meets an old friend, comes across an eccentric musician, and ultimately inspects the existence of the visible world.

Anand and Sharma’s nominated piece, trAPPed, on which they worked with reporter Natalie Obiko Pearson, is an illustrated account of a neurologist in India held under “digital arrest” by her phone. It won the 2026 Pulitzer Prize in Illustrated Reporting and Commentary. Anand RK has previously won the Eisner Award in 2021 for Best Painter/Multimedia Artist, along with colourist John Pearson, for the graphic novel Blue in Green.

This year’s awards are being given across 32 categories, reflecting the wide range of material being published in the form of comics and graphic novels. The nominations represent over 170 print and online titles from some 75 publishers, produced by creators from all over the world.
