Haryana-cadre IPS officer found dead in Chandigarh, police say he died by suicide

An Indian Police Service officer of the Haryana cadre, Y Puran Kumar, was found dead at his residence in Chandigarh’s Sector 11 on Tuesday afternoon, The Indian Express reported.
The police said he shot himself with a service pistol and died on the spot.
Kumar left behind a nine-page “final note” and a will, The Times of India quoted the police as saying.
A 2001-batch officer from Andhra Pradesh, Kumar was earlier posted as additional director-general of police (Rohtak range). He had been transferred last month to the post of inspector-general, Police Training Centre, Sunaria.
Kumar had gone on leave and was slated to join the new post on Wednesday, The Times of India reported.
In his previous postings, Kumar had on several occasions challenged his own department and made allegations of caste discrimination. In 2008, the officer, who belonged to a Scheduled Caste, had approached the National Commission for Scheduled Castes, alleging that he was being harassed by a senior official, according to The Times of India.
During last year’s Lok Sabha election, he had approached the Election Commission against the chief electoral officer, alleging bias against Dalit officers.
