The Hollywood award season officially kickstarted with the 82nd edition of the Golden Globes, held at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, US, on January 5, 2025.

Pop sensations and fan favourite Selena Gomez and Ariana Grande were nominated in the category of Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture.

While Selena Gomez was nominated for the awards-circuit favourite Emilia Perez, Ariana Grande secured a nomination for Wicked. But, the actresses failed to win the award.

Zoe Saldana won the award for Best Supporting Female Actor for Emilia Perez.

In her acceptance speech, Zoe hailed the "strength, complexity and undeniable talent" of co-stars Selena Gomez and Karla Sofia Gascon, as well as director Jacques Audiard.

While Selena and Ariana didn't win the award, they became the talking point for other reasons.

Selena and her fiance made the first public appearance together after their engagement last month. The couple shared mushy moments on the red carpet, even sealed the moment with a kiss, according to reports. Selena also showed her big engagement ring. For the night, she channeled her Disney world vibes in a Prada blue satin column dress.

Selena's film Only Murders in the Building was nominated in the category of Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy.

Ariana Grande's Wicked won the award for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement. Ariana Grande let her outfit do the talking. She wore a pale yellow archival Givenchy gown with a beaded bodice.

Emilia Perez, which was leading the nominations with 10 nods, ended up with four awards. It won awards for the Best Motion Picture (Musical/Comedy), Best Non-English Language Film and Best Original Song. Zoe Saldana won the Best Supporting Actor award for Emilia Perez.
