Golden Globes 2025 Highlights: Emilia Perez, Shogun And The Brutalist Win Big

The 2025 Hollywood award season officially kickstarted with the 82nd edition of the Golden Globes. The awards ceremony was held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles on January 5.  Stand-up comedian Nikki Glaser hosted the show, scripting history as the first woman to solo host the Golden Globe ceremony.

This year, Emilia Perez, which was leading the nominations with 10 nods, ended up with four awards. It won awards for Best Motion Picture (Musical/Comedy), Best Non-English Language Film, Best Original Song. Zoe Saldana won the Best Supporting Actor award for Emilia Perez.

The Brutalist won the awards for the Best Director, Best Actor and Best Motion Picture (Drama). Brady Corbet took home Best Actor award for The Brutalist while, Fernanda Torres, won Best Actress (Drama) for I'm Still Here. 

Payal Kapadia's All We Imagine As Light received two nominations but it failed to get any award. The nuanced drama lost to the Spanish drama Emilia Perez (France) in the Best Non-English language motion picture. The other contenders were I'm Still Here, The Girl with the Needle, The Seed of the Sacred Fig, and Vermiglio.

Payal Kapadia also lost the Best Director award. She competed with Jacques Audiard for Emilia Perez; Sean Baker for Anora; Edward Berger for Conclave; Brady Corbet for The Brutalist; and Coralie Fargeat for The Substance. Brady Corbet lifted the trophy for The Brutalist.

Shogun led the Television category with four awards. It won trophies in the categories of Best Series (Drama), Best Actress (Drama), Best Actor (Drama) and Best Supporting Actor.

In recent years, the voting body behind the Globes has expanded and diversified its membership and brought in a new code of conduct.

The presenters for this year's Golden Globes include Andrew Garfield, Anthony Mackie, Anthony Ramos, Anya Taylor-Joy, Ariana DeBose, Aubrey Plaza, Auli i Cravalho, Awkwafina, Brandi Carlile, Catherine O'Hara, Demi Moore, Dwayne Johnson.

Edgar Ramirez, Elton John, Gal Gadot, Glenn Close, Jeff Goldblum, Jennifer Coolidge, Kaley Cuoco, Kate Hudson, Kathy Bates, Ke Huy Quan, Kerry Washington, Margaret Qualley, Melissa McCarthy, Michael Keaton, Michelle Yeoh, Miles Teller, Mindy Kaling, Morris Chestnut, Nate Bargatze, Nicolas Cage, Rachel Brosnahan, Rob McElhenney, Salma Hayek Pinault, Sarah Paulson, Seth Rogen, Sharon Stone, Vin Diesel, Viola Davis and Zoe Kravitz are among the presenters as well.
