Parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Odisha received heavy rainfall on Tuesday and recorded flooding in several areas. Incessant rains also led to flooding in Punjab and a landslide in Arunachal Pradesh.

In Jammu’s Reasi district, five persons were killed and 14 injured in a landslide on the route to the Vaishno Devi temple atop the Trikuta hill on Tuesday. Several persons were also fear trapped under the rubble.

“In an unfortunate incident of landslide at Adhkwari, five people have lost their lives and 14 others have been injured,” the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board said on X. “Rescue operations are underway.”

The pilgrimage to the temple was suspended after the landslide that occurred at around 3 pm, PTI reported.

Separately, three persons have died in the past three days due to rain-related incidents in Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier on Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department issued a red alert for very heavy rainfall in several districts in the Jammu division, including Poonch, Reasi, Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Udhampur, Doda and Kishtwar.

The weather has triggered landslides and led to several roads being closed.
