After Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan moves Delhi HC to protect personality rights

Actor Abhishek Bachchan has moved the Delhi High Court seeking protection of his personality rights and to prevent the misuse of his name, image, photos, voice and performances by websites and YouTube channels for commercial or personal gains, Bar and Bench reported on Wednesday.
The plea came following a similar application filed by his wife, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, earlier this week.
While hearing the plea on Wednesday, a bench of Justice Tejas Karia said that it could pass an order directing technology company Google to take down links featuring content that violated Abhishek Bachchan’s personality rights.
This would be possible if the petitioner submits to the court a list of links featuring the content.
“If you can identify the platform, it can be easily done,” Bar and Bench quoted the court as saying. “YouTube, Amazon, Flipkart is mentioned in the petition. This order cannot be granted. It has to be divided defendant-wise. We cannot pass an order this way.”
The counsel representing the actor said that a list, divided based on defendants, will be submitted on Wednesday, when the court will hear the matter again, Bar and Bench reported.
The actor contended that his images were being morphed and used without permission by several platforms, including through merchandise sales and artificial intelligence-generated videos on social media.
