Eleven Indians were injured in an attack on a commercial ship while passing through the Strait of Hormuz, off the coast of Oman, on Tuesday, the Ministry of External Affairs said.
The projectile hit the Panama-flagged MT On Peace, which had 19 crew members on board, including 17 Indians. Twelve people were injured in the attack.
The injured were evacuated with the help of Omani authorities and are undergoing treatment.
The incident came days after an Indian seafarer was killed in an attack on a commercial ship off the coast of Oman on September 23. The vessel was sailing towards India when two torpedoes struck the ship.
Eleven Indian seafarers have been killed in the Strait of Hormuz since the war in West Asia began, in attacks involving four Indian ships and 60 foreign-flagged vessels.
The ministry condemned Tuesday’s attack and said that such incidents remained a cause of “deep concern” for India.
“We reiterate our call for an immediate cessation of such attacks in the interests of peace and stability in the region,” it said.
The ministry added: “The targeting of commercial shipping, seafarers and civilian infrastructure in the region must end, and navigation and commerce through international waterways must be restored at the earliest.”
