Sonu Nigam, who has a long-standing work relation with composer-singer AR Rahman, recently opened up about the music legend's personal traits which make him stand out in public.
Sonu Nigam said AR Rahman is a thorough professional and he never lets his personal relationships come in the way of his work. Sonu Nigam also recalled that AR Rahman let him exercise his creative freedom while recording the first song for him for the film Daud in an interaction with O2 India.
"He doesn't have relationships. He is not the kind of person who has relationships. He doesn't open up to anyone. At least, I have never seen that. Perhaps, he opens up in front of his older friends, who have known him as Dileep.
"But I haven't seen him opening up or having any relationship with anybody. He is not a friendly person. He is just into his work," Sonu Nigam said about the maestro.
Sonu Nigam also said that AR Rahman doesn't speak ill about anyone and he's focused about his work and prayers. "He does his work and his prayer. He doesn't behave badly with anyone. He will not hurt anybody's heart. He won't speak ill about anyone.
"He is detached to all of this. He must be attached to his family but I haven't seen him being very friendly with others," he said and added, "He doesn't let anyone come close to him. That's how it should be," added Sonu.
During a tour in the US, Sonu Nigam recalled how they exchanged pleasantries with each other. "He doesn't know how to gossip, and that is not his drawback. This is how he is. He doesn't want to know anything about me or anybody else and he doesn't want anybody else to know about him also. He is a unique personality," he added.
AR Rahman's private life came under scrutiny when he announced his divorce from wife Saira Banu in November after staying together for three decades. During that phase, AR Rahman's brother-in-law Rahman's old interview re-surfced online where he also claimed, the music legend doesn't want to talk much and he's not into any kind of "gossips."
AR Rahman and Sonu Nigam collaborated on timeless classics like Satrangi Re (Dil Se), Aayo Re Sakhi (Water).
