A 28-year-old Indian national has been arrested and charged in the United States for allegedly stabbing two minors with a metal fork on board a flight from Chicago to Germany, the authorities said on Monday.

In a statement, the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts said that Praneeth Kumar Usiripalli was on Lufthansa flight 431 from Chicago to Frankfurt in Germany on Saturday when he allegedly stabbed a 17-year-old boy in the shoulder with a metal fork.

Usiripalli then allegedly stabbed another 17-year-old boy in the back of the head with the same fork, the statement said, citing the charging documents.

The US Attorney’s Office added that Usiripalli allegedly raised his hand, formed a gun with his fingers, put it in his mouth and pulled an imaginary trigger when members of the flight crew attempted to subdue him.

“Immediately afterwards, Usiripalli allegedly turned toward a female passenger to his left and slapped her with his hand,” the statement read. “Usiripalli also allegedly attempted to slap a flight crew member.”

Subsequently, the flight was diverted to Boston and Usiripalli was arrested.
