Delhi HC defers trial against BJP’s Kapil Mishra in 2020 case about ‘mini Pakistan’ comment

The Delhi High Court has asked a trial court to defer the hearing in a case against Bharatiya Janata Party leader Kapil Mishra for a social media post in 2020 allegedly accusing Opposition parties of creating a “mini Pakistan” in Shaheen Bagh during protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act, The Indian Express reported on Saturday.

In late 2019 and 2020, the locality of Shaheen Bagh in Delhi was the site of a large sit-in protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act.

The case against Mishra, who is now the Delhi law minister, also pertained to a social media post he allegedly wrote stating that there would be an “India vs Pakistan” contest on the “streets of Delhi” during the 2020 Assembly elections in the national capital, Live Law reported.

The trial court was set to hear arguments on the framing of charges in the case on Friday, The Indian Express reported. However, Justice Ravinder Dudeja of the High Court on Thursday directed the trial court to fix the case for hearing after October 13.

Mishra had earlier moved the High Court against the summons issued to him by a magistrate in the 2020 case.
