Donald Trump urges Nato members to spend 5% of GDP on defence
President-elect Donald Trump suggested that Nato members should increase their defense spending to 5% of GDP, up from the current 2% minimum. Meanwhile, Nato secretary general Mark Rutte also supports a hike in defense spending for preparedness against future conflicts. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz criticized the idea, questioning the financial burden on citizens.
